Following the launch of the flagship-grade MatePad Pro 5G in February, Huawei might be now working on a mid-range Android tablet in the same lineup. A fresh leak coming from China has revealed the design and key specs of the upcoming MatePad tablet from Huawei.
The yet-unnamed Huawei tablet will be powered by Huawei’s in-house Kirin 810 chipset. It features a 10.4-inch display with a resolution of 2000 x 1200 pixels. The device might get multiple cameras on the back with one of them being an eight-megapixel sensor. It also gets an eight-megapixel front-facing camera.
The upcoming Huawei tablet will be reportedly offered in 4GB+64GB and 6GB+128GB memory configurations. Both of these storage variants will have Wi-Fi-only and cellular (LTE) versions. Huawei may also launch a 3GB+32GB variant of it in the domestic market.
The tablet, which might be called MatePad 10.4 or simply Huawei MatePad, packs a big battery of 7,250mAh capacity. It charges via a USB Type-C port and should come with some sort of fast charging support, although there’s no mention of it.
The US trade restrictions mean this tablet will likely run Google-less Android 10 with EMUI 10.1 Lite on top. It gets the HiSilicon Hi1103 chipset, which brings support for Bluetooth 5.1. The leak also suggests that the tablet will arrive with support for a stylus. The accompanying images further suggest that it features audio by Harman Kardon, a Samsung subsidiary.
There’s no telling when Huawei plans to launch this mid-range Android tablet. However, the leak does reveal that it will sell at a starting price of 1,799 Yuan (roughly $255) with Huawei offering at least two color variants, white and grey.
Huawei is likely to announce the Nova 7 series of smartphones later this month. The Huawei Nova 7, Nova 7 SE, and Nova 7 Pro smartphones will reportedly launch on April 23 in China. This tablet may launch alongside those phones.
Huawei MatePad Pro 5G yet to go on sale
Huawei may have a new Android tablet nearing launch, but its first 5G tablet is yet to go on sale. The company initially launched the MatePad Pro in its home country in November 2019.
In February this year, it announced the MatePad Pro for global markets and also launched a 5G variant. However, owing to the US trade restrictions, the tablet comes without Google Services.
The Huawei MatePad Pro 5G is priced at €799 for the 8GB+256GB model. The 8GB+512GB MatePad Pro 5G costs €949. The Wi-Fi-only and LTE variants start at €549 and €599, respectively. This flagship Huawei tablet is yet to go on sale outside China.
