When Motorola started taking orders for its new foldable Razr phone in January, it was available only in Noir Black. A gold color variant of this phone was leaked shortly after, and nearly two months later, it is now officially on sale. The Blush Gold foldable Motorola Razr is now available to purchase in the US at the same price tag of $1,499.99.
The gold version is not entirely gold but a mash-up of black and gold coloring. The bottom back portion of this clamshell folding phone gets a new paint job and it extends to the front chin as well.
The device’s rear-facing camera also gets a gold accent. The upper half of the phone, as well as the chunky frame around the folding display, remain black.
Motorola launches Blush Gold folding Razr, still highly-expensive
Much like the original Noir Black variant, the Blush Gold Motorola Razr is still a Verizon-exclusive phone. Nothing is different apart from the new look.
It is a mid-range phone with a price tag that tops almost every other flagship smartphone available in the market currently. Motorola is literally banking on nostalgia to drive sales of this phone.
At $1,500 you’re getting a phone that packs a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. The 6.2-inch P-OLED display offers a resolution of 876 x 2142 pixels. The 21:9 aspect ratio means the device is tall, although it folds into a pocket-size device.
A paltry 2,510mAh battery, Android 9 Pie, a single 16-megapixel rear camera and a five-megapixel front-facing camera do not impress either.
Samsung’s similarly-folding Galaxy Z Flip offers a lot more and comes significantly cheap. The device is currently selling for $1,380 and outshines the Motorola Razr in almost every department.
It has a large 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED screen with a 1080 x 2636 pixels resolution. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ chipset is supported by 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
The Galaxy Z Flip also gets a dual-camera setup on the back, with a 12-megapixel primary and 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor. The punch-hole on the front houses a 10-megapixel selfie snapper.
The only area where the Motorola Razr wins over the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is the outer display.
The 2.7-inch display on the outside greatly adds to the functionality of the device. However, that’s never enough to justify the new Razr’s $1,500 price tag. It remains to be seen if the addition of a Blush Gold color variant helps Motorola drive the sales of this highly-expensive phone.
