OnePlus 8 Pro Isn’t Just Powerful, It’s Pretty Durable Too

The OnePlus 8 Pro is finally here and it has all the makings of a premium phone including a buttery smooth display, Snapdragon 865, 5G connectivity, and it’s durable! However, with the specs bump come a corresponding price increase.

The phone starts at $899, making it the company’s most expensive handset ever. And naturally, if you are spending that much on a device, you would want it to last long.

If you are wondering if the OnePlus 8 Pro is a durable device, early verdict surely points to that. YouTube content creator Zack Nelson has already prodded the brand new phone. And despite the abuse, it managed to survive.

The OnePlus 8 Pro is quite sturdy

Nelson notes that all OnePlus devices are quite resistant. The OnePlus 8 Pro, with its IP68 rating, is logically the toughest of all. You can theoretically submerge it into water up to 1.5 meters for half an hour and it should survive. Not that you should deliberately do that though.

Coming back to the durability test, the screen scratches at level 6 on Moh’s scale with deeper grooves at Level 7. Thus, using a screen protector might be a good idea.

The OnePlus 8 Pro also features an optical in-display fingerprint sensor. Impressively, it still recognizes fingerprints after Zack messes with the screen. This is just another indication that optical scanners are pretty good. And of course, full credit to OnePlus’ implementation too.

When a lighter is held up against the screen, white burn marks appear after nearly 30 seconds. However, that doesn’t seem to affect the surrounding pixels.

The phone has a metal and glass body and an aluminum frame. While the device looks sturdy, the back panel, like the screen, scratches at level 6 on Moh’s scale of hardness. So, again, using protection, like the one the company provides for free with the box, is a good idea.

For the final round, the OnePlus 8 Pro is bent. Although the phone flexes a bit, there is no permanent damage. In fact, not only does the handset survive, it doesn’t show any telltale signs of abuse like cracks or kinks.

It goes without saying this is one tough phone. And now that the popup camera has been replaced with a pinhole, we are guessing it’s stronger OnePlus 7 Pro.

So, if durability is a concern for you, the OnePlus 8 Pro seems like a nice option.

This is a specced out phone

Of course, it makes sense to wait for reviews to come out to see how the phone fares in other departments.

But on paper, everything looks good. You have got a 10bit 120Hz display, a quad-camera system, 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage, 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and Wi-Fi 6. And as rumored, OnePlus has also finally embraced wireless charging with the new handset.

Moreover, reverse wireless charging is also supported. This means you can use the OnePlus 8 Pro to juice up compatible handsets. And with a 4,510mAh battery inside, it should last you all day.

So, by the looks of it, this is as good as a 2020 flagship gets and on top of that, it’s pretty durable.
