Samsung Working On 12.4-Inch And 11-Inch Flagship Android Tablets

After making several strategic changes to its budget and mid-range smartphone lineups over the past two years, Samsung might now be looking to freshen up its flagship Android tablet series. A report from SamMobile suggests that the company is planning to make bigger Android tablets this year.

The next Samsung flagship tablet will reportedly come in 12.4-inch and 11-inch sizes. The South Korean giant is one of few manufacturers to still make flagship Android tablets and customers have been long demanding the company to increase the display size. So many potential buyers would appreciate this change.

The new sizes also compare to the latest generation of Apple’s iPad Pro, which comes in 12.9-inch and 11-inch variants. Samsung’s last flagship tablet, the Galaxy Tab S6, features a 10.5-inch display.

This tablet will be the successor to the Tab S6 and is likely to be named Galaxy Tab S7. However, Samsung may also opt to call it Galaxy Tab S20, a change in line with its flagship smartphones this year.

Samsung to launch two size variants of its next flagship tablet

Samsung’s next flagship tablet has entered development with model numbers SM-T97x and SM-T87x. The former likely corresponds to the 12.4-inch model and the latter to the smaller 11-inch model. Both the tablets will be offered in Wi-Fi and cellular variants.

Details about the specs are thin at the moment, but considering it’d be Samsung’s flagship offering, one can certainly expect the latest processor and a good amount of RAM.

Samsung opted for the Snapdragon 855 SoC for the Galaxy Tab S6 last year so the new tablet will likely get the Snapdragon 865. Expect some improvements in the camera department as well.

A big battery with 25W fast charging support, 5G and Android 10 should be onboard too, with One UI 2.1 on top. The Galaxy Tab S6 only just recently received the One UI 2.1 update.

Samsung is also working on One UI 2.5, which will likely ship with the Galaxy Note 20 series first. It remains to be seen if the company’s upcoming flagship tablet gets the new software out of the box. The Galaxy Tab S6 was the first Samsung device to come with One UI 1.5 last year.

Although the upcoming Samsung tablet features a bigger display than the Tab S6, the 11-inch variant may not look significantly bigger than the last year’s model.

There’s enough room for Samsung to trim the bezels. The company could even go the Infinity-O route.

Samsung will reportedly offer the new tablet in grey, blue and brown color variants. A keyboard cover accessory will also be made available. More details about the Galaxy Tab S7 (or Tab S20) should start surfacing online in the coming months.
