Samsung Galaxy Fold owners in the US are finally getting the update to Android 10. And it comes with One UI 2.1, the version of One UI found on the new Galaxy S20 series.
The company started rolling out this update to the Galaxy Fold a couple of weeks ago, but it has finally landed in the US. If you bought your Galaxy Fold in the US, then you should see an update available for your device in the next few days, if it isn’t already available.
You can head into Settings, tap on Software Update and then Check for Update. This is going to be a staggered update, as usual, so you may not see the update available right away. For example, our AT&T model doesn’t have the update yet.
Galaxy S20 features come to the Fold with One UI 2.1
With One UI 2.1, you’re going to be getting some of the Galaxy S20 features on the Galaxy Fold. Which is really great to see. These features also made their way down to the Galaxy Note 10 and S10 series. This includes Quick Share and Music Share. There will be more camera features from the Galaxy S20 coming in a future update. As has been the case with the Galaxy S10 series.
Along with this update, the Galaxy Fold will be updated to the March 2020 security patch. This is technically not the latest security patch, but as long as you have one within the last three months, it is considered up to date. And the April 2020 patch didn’t feature a lot of bug fixes for non-Pixel devices anyways. So it’s not a big deal.
Of course, you’re getting Android 10 on the Galaxy Fold. This is the latest version of Android right now. Android 11 is still in developer preview and likely won’t be available until around August or September of this year.
With Android 10 brings a few more features. Some of which Samsung already had. Like a system-wide dark mode, but there are some changes to it, so it is now truly system-wide on the Galaxy Fold. There’s also privacy enhancements, a screen recorder and even a revamped gesture navigation system available. And you’ll be able to get rid of the gesture hint bar at the bottom of the screen that Google left behind. Which is definitely a good thing.
The update should be fairly large, so make sure you are connected to WiFi before downloading it.
