Amazon Fire TV is making some changes to its interface today, with the addition of a new “Free” tab.
This new tab, which is located at the top of the screen, is a place where you will be able to find all sorts of free content. This is mostly going to be ad-supported content. But it will be one central place where you can find free content to watch. This is especially helpful now that we are all stuck at home, and need some new content to watch, to keep us busy.
Services like Pluto TV, Crackle & more will be showcased in this new Free tab
Most of the content that you’ll find in this new tab, are going to be from free and ad-supported services. Those include services like Amazon’s own IMDb TV, as well as Pluto TV, Crackle, The CW and much more.
It is also going to break down free content into categories like new, trending and popular. There is also going to be a new bottom row with news from Fire TV’s News app available in this free section.
This is going to make it so much easier to find some new content to watch, that isn’t going to cost you a dime to watch.
Making it easier to find content, among the many streaming services
The addition of this new tab is going to make it much easier to find some content to watch, among the many streaming services that are available right now. And there truly are a lot of them. With new ones still planning to launch this year like HBO Max and Peacock.
There are some free streaming services, contrary to popular belief. And this addition to the Fire TV interface is one that will help you find those services. Amazon says that there are over 20,000 free movies and TV episodes available on Fire TV. So there’s going to be plenty to watch, while you stay at home during this extended quarantine that we are all facing right now.
The update should be rolling out to the Fire TV right now. And it will support all, but the first-generation Fire TV products. So that includes the Fire TV Stick, TV Stick 4K, Fire TV and Fire TV Cube. Which means that basically any Fire TV product that has Amazon Alexa built-in, is going to be just fine with this update. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Roku and Android TV add something similar soon.
