Google Starts Rolling Out The Revamped Nest Aware Subscription Plans

At the Made by Google event in October last year, Google had announced a new pricing structure for its Nest Aware subscription. Those updated plans are rolling out this week.

The new Nest Aware covers all of your Nest products with one single subscription. Irrespective of how many Nest cameras, speakers, and displays you have in your home, you’ll only pay a fixed monthly fee. You don’t need to pay on a per-device basis.

Google is offering two subscription tiers that primarily differ in how long video history is stored. There’s the $6 a month Nest Aware that comes with 30 days of event video history.

With this plan, Nest Cams only start capturing the footage when some activity is detected. It costs $60 for an annual subscription.

If you want a 24/7 video history, there’s the pricier $12 a month Nest Aware Plus. It offers ten days of continuous video recording and 60 days of event video history. Nest Aware Plus costs $120 for an annual subscription.

Keep in mind that Nest products work without a subscription as well. They do send alerts to your smartphone in real-time. Paid subscriptions basically add video storage capability, in case you need to look back later.

New Nest Aware plans are rolling out this week

The new pricing model is now rolling out in each of the 19 markets where Nest Aware is available, including the US, UK, Canada, France, Germany, and Australia.

If you’re an existing Nest Aware subscriber, you can upgrade to the new subscription plans through the Google Store. You’ll have to migrate to a Google Account to do so, though. You may also choose to keep your current subscription.

In the US, the new Nest Aware plans will also offer integrated 911 call support in the Google Home app. If your Nest devices detect a critical sound, like that of a smoke alarm or glass breaking, they’ll notify you by sending an alert to the Home app.

You can then review the notification and call 911 directly from the app if some emergency action is required. The app will connect you to the emergency services center closest to your home, no matter where you are.

Google doesn’t have any new Nest products launching soon. However, if you’re looking to pick up some of its existing models, the company is permanently reducing the price of a couple of its Nest products.

The classic Nest Cam Indoor is now $129.99, down from $199.99. The Nest Hub is also selling at $89.99, down from its original price of $129.
