LG Velvet Model Number Hints It Could Have Been Launched As LG G9

After teasing for weeks, LG has finally launched the new LG Velvet smartphone in the first week of May. Even though the LG Velvet smartphone features upper mid-range specifications, it is set to replace the flagship LG G-series. Interestingly, the unboxing video of the LG Velvet confirmed its model number as LM-G900N.

FYI, the LG G8 ThinQ launched last year came with the model number LM-G820N. While the LG G-series is discontinued, the company seems to carry the same series of model numbers.

However, there will be a slight variation in the LG Velvet model number depending on the region. The LG Velvet is currently available only in South Korea for KRW 899,800 ($733).

Is LG G9 launched as LG Velvet?

LG has put great emphasis on its design language with the newly unveiled minimalistic design language.

The LG Velvet smartphone comes with an all-new “Raindrop” camera featuring triple rear cameras and a LED flash placed on the top left corner of the device in descending order by size. Out of all the three cameras, only the primary camera at the top protrudes out from the surface.

With the 3D Arc Design, the device features symmetrical curves on the front and back. The device sports a 6.8-inch Cinema FullVision OLED display with Full HD+ resolution and 20.5: 9 aspect ratio. Unlike other high-end smartphones, the display on this device features a U-shaped notch.

Under the hood, the device comes powered by a 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G Mobile Platform paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

The triple camera setup on the rear features a 48MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 5MP portrait camera. On the front, it comes equipped with a 16MP selfie camera.

Global availability of LG Velvet remains unknown

Additionally, the device comes with a 3.5mm audio jack, an in-display fingerprint scanner and stereo speaker setup.

LG Velvet supports Dual Screen cover and Stylus pen. It packs a 4,300mAh battery and supports wired fast charging and 10W wireless charging. Above all, the device is water and dust resistant with the IP68 certification and is also MIL-STD-810G certified for its durability.

On the connectivity front, the device supports 5G, 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, NFC, and USB Type-C port. The LG VELVET comes in Aurora White, Aurora Gray, Aurora Green, and Illusion Sunset colors.

As of now, the company hasn’t revealed the pricing or the availability details of the device in the US.
