Qualcomm has announced a new mobile processor, the Snapdragon 768G. This is a successor to the Snapdragon 765G, well, kind of. It’s not a full-fledged, next-gen successor, but it’s a more powerful offering regardless.
The Snapdragon 768G just became Qualcomm’s best mid-range processor, essentially. Qualcomm says that the Snapdragon 765G is designed to “bring next-level performance that enables smart, immersive gaming experiences with the integration of truly global 5G, sophisticated on-device AI and select Qualcomm® Snapdragon Elite Gaming features.”
The Snapdragon 768G brings several improvements over the Snapdragon 765G
In its press release, Qualcomm said what improvements this chip brings over the Snapdragon 765G. It comes with the Qualcomm Kryo 475 CPU Prime core clock speed of up to 2.8GHz, compared to 2.4GHz on the Snapdragon 765G.
The Adreno 620 GPU offers up to 15-percent performance increase. On top of that, it has support for Adreno Updatable GPU drivers.
Qualcomm also noted that the Snapdragon 768G is designed to deliver superior gaming performance, and 5G connectivity. On top of that, it has “intelligent multi-camera capabilities, and it preserves battery life”.
The Snapdragon 768G is pin and software-compatible with the Snapdragon 765 and 765G. This chip can provide colors with true 10-bit HDR in order to deliver high quality mobile gaming experiences.
It’s the first 7-series Snapdragon chip to support Adreno Updatable GPU drivers. It also comes with support for 120Hz displays, notes Qualcomm.
The Snapdragon 768G includes the Snapdragon X52 5G modem-RF system. That modem supports all key regions and frequency bands, including 5G mmWave and sub-6 GHz, 5G SA and NSA modes, TDD and FDD with Dynamic Spectrum Sparing (DSS), global 5G roaming, and support for multi-SIM.
It can deliver peak download speeds of up to 3.7 Gbps
That modem can deliver multi-gigabit peak download speeds of up to 3.7 Gbps. When it comes to upload speeds, it goes up to 1.6 Gbps.
The Snapdragon 768G also includes the latest 5th-gen Qualcomm AI engine. It enhances every mobile experience, says Qualcomm, including the camera, audio, voice, and gaming.
The Qualcomm Sensing Hub enables devices to be contextually aware of voice commands when using AI voice assistants. It is worth noting that the Redmi K30 5G Racing Edition is the first commercial device to ship with this processor.
Many other phones will be fueled by this processor in the future, almost certainly. The Snapdragon 765G ended up being quite popular, and this chip will probably become a new mid-range standard when it comes to Qualcomm’s chips.
