After being announced at CES back in January, the TiVo Stream 4K Android TV dongle is finally available for $49.99.
The TiVo Stream 4K is an Android TV dongle, and it offers a lot, surprisingly in a very small package. Also at a small price point.
This dongle brings Google Assistant, Netflix, TiVo Buttons and more
The dongle will be tucked behind your TV, and you do also get a remote. Which will give you buttons for Google Assistant and Netflix. There’s also a number pad there, which is surprisingly one of the things that most streaming TV dongles and set-top boxes miss out on.
The TiVo Stream 4K does also support 4K UHD streaming with Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos for audio. Since this is also an Android TV device, you’re getting Chromecast built-in, of course.
It rounds out with Bluetooth, WiFi 802.11 ac, as well as HDMI 2.0a.
The TiVo Experience comes to Android TV
It’s hard to stand out in the world of Android TV units, but this one could really stand out thanks to the TiVo experience. It’s going to be bringing in content from streaming services, all into one place. Making it easier for you to find the content that you want.
This means that you won’t need to navigate around everywhere individually to find something. In theory, this could be a really great aggregator, but we’ll have to wait and see when we get one in hand.
What’s really cool here is that it can bring up a classic Live TV guide, if you have something like Sling TV attached here.
Unlike TiVo of the past, the Stream 4K is a one-time purchase of $49.99 for the dongle. And you will get Android TV – which means loads of great apps to use on the dongle. As well as TiVo’s unique take on presenting content to you. Which, let’s be honest, can’t be any worse than what Android TV does.
This is supposedly a promotional price for the TiVo Stream 4K, it was originally supposed to cost $69.99. So if you’re interested in picking one up, you’d better do so before they go up in price. But even at $69.99 – the cost of a Chromecast Ultra or Mi Box S – this is still a really great deal for anyone looking for a decent Android TV dongle. And let’s be honest, there’s really only one choice for Android TV right now, which is the NVIDIA SHIELD TV.
