The US President, Donald Trump, has extended the Huawei and ZTE ban until May 2020, reports Reuters. As you probably recall, this ban was initially signed in May 2019, while national security was cited as a reason.

By doing this, President Trump prevented US companies from using telecommunications equipment made by firms who pose a national security risk. This does concern both Huawei and ZTE.
That order invoked the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, which gave the President the authority to regulate commerce in response to a national emergency.
Now, the US Commerce Department is expected to extend a license, which is set to expire on Friday, to allow US companies to keep doing business with Huawei. That goes for companies only, though.
This license has been extended several times thus far. Interestingly enough, the Wireless Trade Association (CTIA) urged the US Commerce Department to issue a long-term license. That did not happen thus far, though.
For those of you that are wondering what does this mean for Google’s services / apps on Huawei phones. Well, Huawei is still not allowed to use them, and that will be the case in the foreseeable future.
Many people are hoping that this ban will go away, or at least get modified somehow. It is affecting the consumers, and also companies like Huawei and ZTE.

President Trump is firm on his decision thus far, though. He sees both of those companies as serious risks for the US national security. Until that changes, this ban is not going away.
The sales number of Huawei phones seem to suggest that these numbers haven’t affected the company that much, at least not yet. Huawei managed to do really good both last year, and this year, at least thus far.
It remains to be seen what will happen next, though. Huawei released HMS, its own alternative to GMS, though that may not be enough for all users. They’re still unable to use Google apps, and a number of other applications are not available from Huawei’s app store (AppGallery).
Huawei is doing its best to ensure that more and more apps get listed on AppGallery, though. The company invested large sums of money to push developers towards listing their apps on AppGallery.
It will be interesting to see what will Huawei’s sales numbers and market percentage look like at the end of this year. It seems like we won’t be seeing Google services on Huawei phones anytime soon.
