Apex Legends Is Still Coming To Android, Here's When To Expect It

Last week, EA held an online event called EA Play Live for some of its upcoming and current games, including Apex Legends, which some thought would get an announcement about its Android release.

While the EA Play Live event didn’t mention anything about Apex Legends on Android (or iOS for that matter), the CEO of EA Andrew Wilson recently confirmed that the game is still planned for a launch on both mobile platforms.

There was still no exact launch date given. However, Wilson did give a general time frame of when to expect the game to arrive. And it’s not far off.

Apex Legends will arrive on Android by the end of this year

Those eager to get their hands on a mobile version of Apex Legends will be able to do so by the end of this year. According to Wilson who confirmed the details in a conference call.

That being said the release will be a soft launch of the game. Which means it’s not likely to be launching in too many places when that happens.

Wilson also fails to mention anything about location. So when the game does enter a soft launch period it’s unclear exactly what regions will have access first.

There’s always a good chance that the US will be included. Then again, Call of Duty: Mobile was in soft launch for at least a couple of months. None of those soft launch regions included the US, which is one of Call of Duty’s biggest markets. Keeping that in mind, EA could have every intention to release the game in its soft launch state internationally.

Apex Legends will have some tough competition

Apex Legends is no doubt a popular game in the battle royale/first-person shooter genres. It’ll have an uphill battle to climb once it finally lands on mobile devices though.

It’s entering the mobile space fairly late when compared to other popular options. Both PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty: Mobile will have been available for over a year by the time Apex Legends enters a soft launch period. PUBG Mobile has been available since 2018.

Both of those games also do extremely well when factoring in active player base and the amount of revenue they bring in. Fortnite has also been on mobile for over a year now, and it just recently landed on the Play Store. By the time Apex Legends rolls around, it may need to have something in place to really “wow” fans.

Especially if EA wants it to be as big on mobile as it is on console and PC.
