First Meizu Smartwatch Coming In Q4 2020: Official

Meizu has just confirmed that its very first smartwatch will launch in Q4 2020. This confirmation comes in the form of an official poster that the company shared via Weibo.

‘Flyme For Watch’ is coming along with the first Meizu smartwatch

That image is shown below this paragraph, and as you can see, the company confirms “Flyme For Watch” is coming. Below that, it clearly says “2020 Q4”, suggesting that it will launch in the fourth quarter of this year.

Now, Flyme OS is Meizu’s Android UI which runs on its smartphones. Flyme For Watch will obviously be a build of Flyme for its smartwatches. So, the company will announce at least one smartwatch this year.

The company did release a poster recently, with a watch vector on it. That suggested that a watch may be coming in the near future, and that assumption was accurate.

Now, that watch vector showed a square watch. We really don’t know if that indicates that Meizu’s first smartwatch will ship with a square body or not, but it’s possible.

We don’t really know what to expect out of the company’s smartwatch, to be quite honest. It will almost certainly be made out of metal, but for the rest of it, it’s a complete mystery.

Meizu does love industrial design, based on their smartphone designs, so maybe some of that will rub off on its smartwatch. Considering this is “Flyme For Watch”, we presume it will run on top of Android.

This smartwatch will probably run regular Android, with Flyme For Watch included on top of it

Now, that will be regular Android, not Wear OS. Wear OS does not really allow companies to install their own UIs on top of it, so… that won’t be doable for Meizu.

It’s about time Meizu steps out to the smartwatch market, as its competitor did… a long time ago. The company allegedly doesn’t have plans to announce any new smartphones by the end of 2020, so its focus is obviously on smartwatches, and some other products.

Truly wireless earbuds are also on the way, if a recent report is to be believed. Meizu seems to be developing all sorts of wearables, and we may see quite a few of them by the end of 2020.

Huawei has been making strides in the smartwatch market, and Xiaomi has been leaving its mark as well. It will be interesting to see whether Meizu can mess things up for those two companies.

We will probably see the design of this smartwatch in the coming weeks / months, as leaks are imminent. So, stay tuned for that, the very first Meizu smartwatch is coming.
