According to the latest piece of information, the Huawei Mate 40 series won’t include an under-display camera. This information comes from Changan Digital Jun, a Chinese tipster.
It seems like the Huawei Mate 40 will not include an under-display camera
He shared the information via Weibo, as he claims that he saw the latest version of the Huawei Mate 40 prototype. He claims that an under-display camera is not in Huawei’s plans for the Mate 40 series.
Ever since Visionox announced that it’s ready to mass-produce its solution for under-display cameras, we’ve seen various rumors. One of those rumors claimed that Huawei will be the first to use such tech.
Such information created a whole new batch of rumors, saying that the Huawei Mate 40 series may include an under-display camera. Well, it seems like that won’t happen.
Such a feature would definitely be a selling point, especially with the right marketing. We don’t know why it’s not in Huawei’s plans, but it’s possible that the initial rumor was fake to begin with.
Various sources claimed that under-display camera tech is still not ready to go. Visionox managed to surprise everyone when it announced that its solution is ready to go.
OPPO and Xiaomi both demoed under-display camera tech last year, while we still haven’t seen a commercial phone equipped with such tech. Both companies said that the tech is still not ready.

So, will we see a smartphone with an under-display camera in 2020? Well, that is still possible, but not that likely. The next-gen Xiaomi Mi MIX handset is expected to launch later this year, and Xiaomi loves to include new tech in that series. So… who knows.
In regards to the Huawei Mate 40 series, we still don’t know what design will Huawei go with. It is possible it will opt for a display camera hole(s) once again.
The Huawei Mate 40 series will arrive later this year, probably in Q4 (October or November). The Huawei Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro are expected to arrive, at the very least.
The upcoming Kirin 1000 or 1020 will fuel the Huawei Mate 40. Huawei will probably announce that chip in September, during IFA. We’re only guessing, of course, but that’s what the company did in the past.
The Huawei Mate 40 handsets will not include Google services, by the way, as the US ban is still in place. That being said, you can expect to see more rumors regarding this phone in the near future.
