Qualcomm has announced a new mid-range processor, the Snapdragon 690. The Snapdragon 690 has a lot to offer, on paper. This is an 8nm processor, and it does come with 5G support.
This is actually the very first 5G processor in the company’s 6-series of chips. It also includes 4K HDR (true 10-bit) support, which is also a first in the series. It can capture over a billion shades of color and snapshots at up to 192 megapixels.
The Snapdragon 690 supports display refresh rates up to 120Hz
This processor also supports displays with refresh rates up to 120Hz. It also comes with support for the latest 5th-gen Qualcomm AI Engine, in case you were wondering.
The Snapdragon 690 includes a Qualcomm Kryo 560 CPU for up to 20-performance improvement over its predecessor. The Adreno 619L GPU is also included, and it offers up to 60-percent faster graphics rendering than the Snapdragon 675.
For 5G, the Snapdragon 690 includes the Snapdragon X51 Modem-RF System. It supports download speeds up to 2.5 Gbps for 5G, and up to 1.2 Gbps for LTE. Upload speeds up to 660 Mbps for 5G are supported, and up to 210 Mbps for LTE.
On top of that, Wi-Fi 6 is also included, while Bluetooth 5.1 comes integrated as well. It ships with advanced audio via the Qualcomm FastConnect 6200.
The Snapdragon 690 supports dual-frequency (L1 and L5) GNSS to improve location positioning accuracy and robustness. It also supports Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC).
This processor utilizes two Kryo 560 Prime CPUs (Cortex A77-based) at up to 2GHz. On top of that, it comes with six Kryo 560 Efficiency CPUs (Cortex A55-based) at up to 1.7GHz.
It supports both single and dual camera systems
This processor also comes with support for both single and dual camera systems. It supports dual camera systems up to 32-megapixel + 16-megapixel, or a single camera up to 192 megapixels.
The Qualcomm Spectra 335L Image Sensor Processor is also included in the package. Do note that 120Hz support is limited to fullHD+ on this chip. It does support QHD at 60Hz, though.
The chip also supports RAM up to 8GB of LPDDR4X (at 1866MHz). NFC is also included on this CHIP, and it also comes with supports for GPS, Glonass, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS, and so on.
A support for USB 3.1 and USB-C is included, as is support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ technology for fast charging. Devices using this chip will appear in the second half of this year. Qualcomm says that we’ll see over 1,800 devices powered by the Snapdragon 6-series chips.
