Snapdragon 865+ Flagship SoC Is Coming, Tipster Claims

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ SoC is coming, it seems. That chip has been mentioned in a number of rumors thus far, but nothing concrete. Well, a piece of credible information just surfaced.

The Snapdragon 865+ is coming, claims a well-known tipster

A well-known tipster, Ice Universe, mentioned in one of his tweets that the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra will be fueled by the Snapdragon 865+. That pretty much confirms that the Snapdragon 865+ is coming.

Ice Universe is usually spot on when it comes to leaks, so we have a reason to believe what he says. In that tweet, he shared quite a bit of info on the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, click here if you’re interested.

The tipster did not share any information on the chip, though. So, at this point, we can only guess what the Snapdragon 865+ will bring. Chances are that its benefits over the Snapdragon 865 will be similar to the benefits of the Snapdragon 855+ over 855.

In other words, the Snapdragon 865+ will probably offer higher clock speeds over the Snapdragon 865. On top of that, you can expect some other benefits, perhaps in the gaming section.

The Snapdragon 855+, in specific, did bring some gaming-related improvements. Nothing major, though, so we’re not expecting a major difference between the Snapdragon 865+ and 865.

Both of those chips will be the company’s flagship offerings, in a way. Smartphone manufacturers will start opting for the Snapdragon 865+ as soon as it becomes available, though.

The Snapdragon 865+ will probably ship with an included 5G modem

What will be interesting to see, is if the Snapdragon 865+ will be available without a 5G modem. We doubt that will happen, as the Snapdragon 865 is not, but it will be interesting to see.

If the 5G modem doesn’t end up being a mandatory part of the package, the Snapdragon 865+ may be more affordable than the Snapdragon 865. That would affect smartphone prices as well.

Qualcomm basically forced smartphone OEMs to offer 5G this year by including a 5G modem with the Snapdragon 865. The Snapdragon 765 comes in two variants, for example. One with the 5G modem, and one without.

5G is definitely not where it should be at this point in time. Getting a phone for its 5G functionality doesn’t make sense for the vast majority of people.

So, it would be nice to have options, though we doubt we’ll get that with the Snapdragon 865+. Whatever the case may be, the Snapdragon 865+ is coming, so get ready.
