Viber Adds A GIF Creation Tool To Help Make Messaging More Fun

Messaging app Viber has launched a new GIF creation tool on its platform. The new feature lets its users create their own GIFs and share them with their friends and family through the app to make conversations more fun and enjoyable.

The tool appears to be a simple toggle built into the app’s camera mode. Users can record a short video from within the app and switch the GIF toggle to create the “legendary looping GIF.”

Viber also lets users select an existing video file from the gallery. Users can trim longer videos and select the perfect part to feature in the GIF.

The new tool lets users create GIFs in boomerang, slow-motion (0.5x), fast play (2x and 4x), and reverse modes. The tool is now available on iOS, with support for Android coming in the next weeks.

“It’s often said that it’s hard to read someone’s tone over a text message. While emojis can sometimes help, there is still a limit to what can be expressed over text.

Viber’s new customizable GIF feature, in addition to its new customizable Sticker feature it already offers, aims to change that, making communication over text more easy and accurate than ever before” the company said in an official press release.

Viber launches a GIF creation tool

Viber has been regularly adding new features and upgrades to its messaging app. Most recently, it launched a Group Video Call feature allowing up to 20 participants in a video call, a timely move during these lockdown measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pretty much every messaging platform now offers group video calling features.

Earlier this year, Viber also added a note-taking feature to the app. “My Notes” on Viber more or less looks like a conversation and is accessible from your Chats list. It comes with additional features to help with the organization.

You can create notes manually or save messages and media you’ve sent or received as your notes with a few taps. It can also serve as a to-do list since the notes can be checked off. You can even set reminders for notes so that they pop-up at specific times.

My Notes added greatly to Viber’s functionality. Now, the addition of the new GIF creation tool further makes messaging on Viber more fun and enjoyable.

“As we like to say at Viber, if an emoji is used to replace a word, GIFs and stickers can replace an entire sentence – and now with our custom GIFs – users can express themselves more accurately and do it in a more funny way,” said Ofir Eyal, COO of Rakuten Viber.
