YouTube Music has now added “Collaborate” buttons for use on playlists as reported by 9to5Google. The buttons are currently inactive but will hopefully be coming into action in the near future. Google has apparently been working on this functionality since March so this should be a feature we see in coming weeks.
Earlier this year it was shown that users will be provided with a link to share when managing their playlists.
This has since been confirmed to be the collaborate feature that we are currently be shown on the app. With transfers underway from Google Play to YouTube music new feature should be a good motivation to do so.
How collaboration will work on YouTube Music
In the latest version of the YouTube Music app, you can now see the new feature. However, it is still inactive.
You can access it by visiting a playlist then tapping the edit button. This reveals a new “Collaborate” button next to the “Privacy” one.
Even if you change your setting to private, public or unlisted you cannot get this function to work so it is likely to roll out soon.
When this rolls out the “Collaborate” feature will give users a link to share their playlist and allow contribution. However, the plan is to always allow users to turn of collaborating whenever they see fit.
YouTube Music aiming to become more social
YouTube Music is hoping that this new feature will help the app become a more social experience. With user interaction of a social level with the platform so important, this should be a helpful step in that direction.
This new feature should allow users to interact and work together more on the app than has previously been allowed. The company will hope this will improve engagement in the long run.
YouTube Music has also recently become compatible with Android Google Maps. It is clearly been a busy few weeks for the company especially with all the issues it is facing in terms of delays to the transfers from Google Play Music.
YouTube Music appears to be announcing new features regularly. This is the perhaps drive the motivation to transfer away from Google Play to its platform.
However, much of this is acting as a bit of a distraction. With so many additions and changes, many may slip through somewhat unnoticed. Hopefully, the company irons its problems soon to allow the “Collaborate” feature to launch and be a success.
