Amazon hasn’t decided to completely cancel Prime Day just yet. But it will be delayed, of course that is pretty evident considering it would have been last week, normally. But Amazon is planning to announce a date for Prime Day “soon”.
On Tuesday, the company announced that Prime Day for India would take place on August 6. So we could expect to see something similar for other countries. Normally, Prime Day is on the same day around the world. But obviously, this year things have been much different.
In a statement, Amazon said:
“Over the last five years, Prime Day has become a special celebration and time for Prime members to shop incredible deals for themselves and for friends and family – and it’s something we look forward to every year. This year we’ll be holding Prime Day later than usual, while ensuring the safety of our employees and supporting our customers and selling partners. We are excited Prime members in India will see savings on August 6-7, and that members all around the world will experience Prime Day later this year. We look forward to sharing more details soon.”
Prime Day might be super close to Black Friday this year
Depending on how far out Prime Day still is, it might be very close to Black Friday, and one of those shopping days is going to suffer.
Though, even without Prime Day, sales are going to suffer, thanks to the economy and COVID-19. Many were out of work for months, and many are still out of work or getting laid off for a second time due to this pandemic. So money to spend on Prime Day or on Black Friday is going to be pretty small.
But it looks like Amazon still wants to make it happen, and go on with Prime Day. Which is a bit surprising since Amazon has been running straight since March when COVID-19 first hit the US. It has been rough for Amazon to keep things in stock and keep customer service agents at work, because the phone lines have been ringing off the hook ever since.
Honestly, it would probably be a good idea for Amazon to skip Prime Day this year, but we all know they won’t. Amazon can be greedy sometimes, and this is one of those times. We’ll have to wait and see when Prime Day will take place. The mid-July time was always a good time as many were looking at Back to School sales.
