Galaxy Buds Live Cross Another Checkpoint On The Way To Launch

Samsung is expected to launch a new pair of truly wireless (TWS) earbuds this month. Supposedly called Galaxy Buds Live, the earbuds have just received approval from the FCC. The buds have also received the Nemko AS certification.

The new buds have passed through the two certification processes with the model number SM-R180. To recall, the Galaxy Buds Plus launched earlier this year bearing the model number SM-R175 while the Galaxy Buds arrived last year with the model number SM-R170. So the Galaxy Buds Live will arrive in the same lineup.

There were speculations earlier that Samsung could launch the new buds under a separate fitness-focused wireless earbuds lineup, reviving the Gear IconX lineup. Even their branding was initially reported to feature the ‘X’ moniker, with a trademark application suggesting the Galaxy BudsX name.

The certification listings do not specifically mention the ‘Galaxy Buds Live’ branding either. However, reports claim that’s indeed going to be the name of the Buds Plus successor. Reference to this name was found in the Galaxy Wearable app last month. The accompanying image asset also revealed the bean-shaped design.

According to the FCC documents, the new earbuds operate between 2402MHz to 2480MHz frequencies. They feature 3.7Vdc charging support.

With a dimension of 15 x 26 x 14 mm, the buds are so small that FCC says it’s impracticable to include a label on them. Samsung’s upcoming TWS earbuds weigh about 5 grams each.

Galaxy Buds Live grabs FCC certification, may launch soon

Samsung has several hardware products nearing launch. The company has a Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for August 5. The event is likely to see the Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Z Flip 5G, Galaxy Fold 2, and the Galaxy Tab S7 all break cover.

The Galaxy Buds Live and the Galaxy Watch 3, on the other hand, are likely to launch this month itself, possibly on July 22.

The two wearable devices will reportedly go on sale around the same time as the Unpacked event. While most of Samsung’s upcoming devices have been leaking regularly for the past few weeks, there’s little known about the Galaxy Buds Live.

The bean-shaped earbuds are expected to feature active noise cancellation (ANC) and a built-in music player. Samsung may offer the earphones in Black, Copper, and White colors.

Additionally, reports are that the Galaxy Buds Live may retail at under $150, which would be impressive for a pair of TWS earbuds with ANC support.

If it turns out to be true, Samsung will be able to undercut Apple’s AirPods pricing quite effectively. With a July 22 launch seeming highly likely, it’s only a matter of time before things get official.
