Gboard has a new auto-switch feature for dark mode and light mode themes. At least, it does in beta as it’s now being tested.
This means users will have something to look forward to in the future once Google finally decides it’s ready for a full rollout. According to Android Police, the auto-switch feature for the dark mode and light mode themes in Gboard is only being made available to certain users of the most recent beta.
So it’s seemingly not available to all users of the Gboard beta app. There’s also no telling how long Google has been testing this though. If it’s been in testing for a little while, then it could arrive Gboard stable sooner than rather than later.
The auto-switch feature for dark mode themes in Gboard isn’t alone
The auto-switch feature is great for anyone who uses the automatic switcher for light and dark modes and lets the system do the work based on timing. But not everyone does that.
Gboard is also testing two other new default themes. In addition to the automatic switcher, there’s also now a default dark theme and a default light theme. So if you prefer either of those to be static, you can set it to those.
Keeping in mind that these are still only available in the beta. And only to some users and not everyone using it.
The Google Sans font is also included
The latest version of the Gboard beta also reportedly includes the Google Sans font.
So if you really wanted that for some reason, you’ll have it soon enough. It also looks like that will just be the new font used and there won’t be any way to change it to something else you prefer.
Then again if that’s something that users are looking for there are other keyboard apps that fulfill that desire.
If you can’t wait for Google to roll these changes out to the Gboard app in its stable version, you can always sign up for the Gboard beta to get your hands on the changes. There’s no guarantee though that you’ll have access to them once you install it.
That being said, there is a guarantee that you won’t have access to them if you don’t sign up for the beta. At least not until Google updates the stable version of the app. So really it comes down to a waiting game and whether or not you’re willing to play it.
