An Incoming Software Update Will Fix The OnePlus Nord Display Issues

The OnePlus Nord display tinting issue may get a fix soon. The company has provided a statement to 9to5Google confirming that they are working on a software update for the device to fix the issue. “We are working on an OTA to address this [display issue],” OnePlus said.

That’s quite a turn from the company after initially refusing to acknowledge the problem. OnePlus had previously said that “this is characteristic of all OLED displays” and not a quality issue.

“Under specific circumstances of low brightness, a slight display discoloration may occur due to the properties of the AMOLED display,” the initial statement read. “The degree of discoloration will vary depending on other properties of the display. It will not affect daily usage or the durability of the screen.”

To be fair to OnePlus, display tinting at low brightness is indeed common on OLED screens. However, it shouldn’t be to the extent where it gravely affects the user experience. Thankfully, OnePlus has now acknowledged the issue and assured of a fix via a software update.

The company hasn’t provided a timeline for the update yet, though. With the Nord going on sale on August 4, it would be hoping to release the OTA (over the air) update before that, so those who have pre-ordered the phone or are planning to get it on the first day will not be exposed to the display issues.

They would have a software update out of the box that’ll fix the issues if any.

Fix for OnePlus Nord display issues coming soon

Barely a week into the announcement, the OnePlus Nord started experiencing display tinting issues at low brightness levels. Official OnePlus forums as well as other public forums like Reddit were afloat of complaints from early adopters of the device.

According to those reports, users were seeing green, purple, or yellow screen tinting towards the lower half of the display.

Such color casts appear when display brightness dips below 25 percent. That could be disturbing if one’s using the phone in a dimly-lit room, or at night.

This issue appears to be present on the early OnePlus Nord units out of the box. In their product review of the phone, 9to5Google did mention of display issues and tinting problems on the device at low brightness levels. They also noticed banding along the notched portion of the screen.

Such display tinting issues are not new to OnePlus phones. The OnePlus 8 Pro also experienced similar problems early on.

A software update resolved those problems on the newest OnePlus flagship. Hopefully, it’s not a manufacturing issue and a similar OxygenOS update will resolve it on the OnePlus Nord as well.
