Finally, you can now officially cast your music straight from the Spotify desktop app. This feature will now work on both Windows and Mac operating system desktop apps. Spotify is already looking to revamp its features for the desktop app. However, before that, the music streaming giant has now added one of the most requested features from the user to its desktop application.
What this means, it that users can control and cast music or podcasts straight from their Windows or Mac desktop apps. Previously, in order to do this, you had to cast and control the Chromecast streams using the Spotify app on Android or iOS via the Spotify Connect. Fortunately, with this new feature upgrade, you have less hassle now, if you stream using Spotify.
Make sure to have the latest Spotify desktop app
As per 9to5Google, keep in mind that you need to have Spotify app version v1.1.38 on your Windows or Mac desktop in order to enjoy this feature. Lower versions do not support this feature. This piece of information was shared by Spotify Rock Star MattSuda on the official community platform of Spotify. The post reads;
Good news!
You can now find Chromecast in the connect “devices available” menu in the Spotify desktop app and browser web player. Now you can cast your music to Chromecast from the desktop app without having to use the iOS or Android app.
Make sure your Spotify desktop app is up to date
Now, for those who are wondering how they can initiate the Chromecast stream from their desktop app, you have to click the ‘Devices Available’ button located at the bottom of the interface. Moreover, from here you would be able to select the streaming devices. Tap on the device you wish to stream on and voila! You are done.
Spotify, in the past, has brought in several features and enhancements for its Android and iOS apps. But this time around, the Swedish company is focusing on the desktop app, which is a welcome thought. Well, the desktop app is now in league with the Android/iOS app, which had this Chromecast stream feature from ages.
So, it was about time for the desktop app to pick up this feature for users like us, who spend more time on their desktops than their smartphones. Also, it helps in keeping your hands off the smartphone and avoids unnecessary multitasking just to stream music.
