Xiaomi has long been rumored to launch the Amazon Fire TV Stick alternative. The Mi TV Stick has already been featured in several leaks. Now, it was also listed on a couple of benchmarking websites.
Additionally, the leaked unboxing photos of the Mi TV Stick have also surfaced online. Apart from the pricing, we knew everything about it before the official announcement.
Mi TV Stick unboxing photos leak out in all its glory
Regarding the in-box content, there’s a Mi TV Stick itself along with a voice-enabled remote controller, an adapter, and a MicroUSB cable. The remote comes with dedicated buttons for Netflix, Prime Video, and Google Assistant.
It looks identical to the remote controller offered with the Mi Box S. The maximum resolution output on the Mi TV Stick is limited to 1080p at 60 FPS. Under the hood is the Amlogic S805Y quad-core processor coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage.
As per the earlier leaks, the company might also launch a 4K version of the Mi TV Stick at a slightly higher price point.
It will also include double the amount of RAM. Like the previously launched Mi Box 3 and Mi Box S, the Mi TV Stick also runs on the stock Android TV interface.
Benchmark test suggests it might support Dolby Vision
With Widevine L1 certification, it will offer HD playback on popular streaming services like Netflix and Prime Video.
As per the DRM Info app, the Mi TV Stick supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision. However, this information is nowhere mentioned on the box. It supports both DTS-HD and Dolby Stereo Sound for superior audio output.
On Geekbench, the Mi TV Stick with the model number “MiTV-AESP0” scored 547 on single-core and 1,482 on multi-core tests. Coming to Antutu, it scored an overall 36,436 points. For comparison, the Mi Box S has scored 31,669 points.
Since the device can’t be activated before July 15th, the tests have been done in offline mode. Apart from the popular Fire TV Stick 4K, the new Mi TV Stick is also expected to compete with the upcoming Android TV stick from Google codenamed Sabrina.
With a cheaper price tag, Xiaomi might have an advantage when compared to other feature-rich alternatives.
If not with the Full HD version, we expect the Mi TV Stick 4K to come with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support. These features are available on the two-year-old Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K.
