Google Promo Reveals Nest Locks Can Be Unlocked From The Home App

A new Google promo video reveals that users will soon be able to unlock their Nest locks directly from the Google Home app. This Easter egg was revealed in a video featuring Fred Armisen.

Google is running daily promos for a month with some disappointing deals as compared to previous discounts.

However, a new video, which is part of the “Daily Special” campaign, reveals that we might see a new feature soon on the Google Home app.

As spotted by Android Police, the new video shows Fred unlocking the Nest x Yale lock right from the Google Home app. Moreover, the video also showcases that the app shows the current state of the smart locks as well.

This also gives us a hint that regular icons will be replaced by the actual status of the lock in the future. This is similar to what we already have on the Nest app.

Several new features were ported over from the Nest app to Google Home app

Notably, Google has ported over quite a few features from the Nest app. Back in April it added Nest Cam events and lighting control features to its Google Home app.

Later, Nest Protect smart smoke and CO alarms also was added to the Google Home app. And now, it seems like Google is also bringing the icon that shows the status of the lock to the Google Home from the Nest app.

Apparently, we might see Google picking more features from the Nest app and add it to the Google Home app. As shown in the promo video, tapping and holding on the lock icon will unlock the smart lock.

Moreover, as of now, users were able to lock or unlock their smart locks only using their voice via Google Assistant. However, Nest Hubs and other security displays got some new features that allow unlocking the smart locks by entering the security code on the screen.

The Google Home unlock feature is yet to go live for the Google Home app

This new feature to unlock smart locks from the Google Home app is going to come in a future update. However, since the video shows this new feature in action already, we believe that the update should arrive for the user in the coming weeks.

It will also be interesting to see whether Google brings more Nest app features to the Google Home app apart from this feature. We will keep you updated once this feature goes live in the Home app.
