Huawei Mate X2 Design To Be Inspired By The Galaxy Z Fold 2

The Huawei Mate X2 design will be inspired by the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, it seems. According to a new report by Ross Young, a well-known analyst, the Huawei Mate X2 will offer a big design change, which will make it similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

The Huawei Mate X2 design will be somewhat similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 2

The Huawei Mate X2 will ship with an in-folding display. In other words, its display will be protected on the inside when the phone is folded, unlike the Huawei Mate X.

As most of you know, the Huawei Mate X and Xs fold outwards. Its main display covers both the phone’s front and back sides when folded. Well, Huawei opted for a major design change, it seems.

This has not been confirmed by the company just yet, but Ross Young is usually spot on with such tips. He also noted that the Mate X2 display will be sourced from Samsung, not BOE. The phone won’t offer a UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) display, though.

Ross Young also mentioned that the phone will feature an 8.03-inch display. In other words, it will have the same display size as the original Huawei Mate X.

That’s not all, though, as Evan Blass had something to say as well. Evan Blass shared some codenames for the upcoming Huawei devices. One of those codenames relates to the Huawei Mate X2.

Mr. Blass says that the Mate X2 is codenamed ‘Teton’. The next-gen Nova handset is codenamed Jessica/Barbie, while the Huawei Y9a sports the ‘Franklin’ codename.

The Huawei FreeBuds Pro are on the way as well, it seems, and they’ll be codenamed ‘Mermaid’. The last codename that Evan Blass shared is that of the Huawei Watch Fit, it’s ‘Stia’.

As a comment to his original tweet, Mr. Blass also added the codename of the Huawei Mate 40 Pro, it’s ‘Noah’. It also noted that the Mate 40 Pro will ship with a different firmware than the non-Pro unit, which is interesting (EMUI 11 vs EMUI 10..x).

Huawei’s next foldable is expected to arrive in Q4, but nothing has been confirmed just yet

We still do not know when will the Huawei Mate X2 launch, though. The original Mate X was announced in February last year, and arrived in November that same year. It’s obvious the same didn’t happen this year.

The Huawei Mate Xs (global model) was announced earlier this year, so the company’s launch timeframe was moved. It’s anyone’s guess when the Mate X2 will launch, but we’re expecting it to arrive in Q4.

The device will be fueled by the same chip as the Huawei Mate 40 series, the upcoming Kirin 1000. That processor is expected to become official in the near future, maybe even at IFA 2020.
