At Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event a couple of weeks back, Microsoft announced several improvements for the Your Phone app. Those new Your Phone “Apps” experience is now rolling out for the general public after a brief period of testing with Windows Insiders.
Microsft announced the news through a Windows blog post. The company doesn’t seem to have updated its device compatibility list for the feature yet. However, it’s still likely limited to Samsung smartphones, thanks to Link to Windows integration on those.
Link to Windows comes integrated with all of Samsung’s newer flagship smartphones as well as several mid-range Galaxy A devices. You can find the full list of compatible devices here. Microsoft will likely update the list soon to add the Galaxy Note 20 series.
Additionally, there are also some other hardware and software requirements for this feature to work. Your Windows 10 PC must be running October 2018 Update or later, preferably the latest version of Windows 10. You also need to have the latest versions of the Your Phone app and Link to Windows. Lastly, your phone and PC must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network for it to work.
Your Phone Apps experience now rolling out widely
Microsoft expanded its partnership with Samsung by announcing several new Windows features exclusive to Galaxy smartphones. Among a plethora of new features is the Your Phone “Apps” experience. The new feature brings the ability to access your Android phone’s mobile apps directly from your Windows 10 PC. You can also pin an app to the taskbar or start menu on your PC for quick access.
Android apps open in a separate window outside of the Your Phone app. This allows you to multitask while bringing the convenience of your PC’s large screen, keyboard, mouse, pen, and touch screen capabilities to your mobile apps. Whether you need to reply to a conversation or order food, you don’t have to pick your phone.
All of these features are now rolling out for compatible smartphones. Microsoft says this is a gradual rollout. It is seemingly a server-side update and may take a few days before the new features show up on Your Phone app on your Windows PC. An official FAQ is there to will help you with the setup.
Microsoft plans to add several more functionalities to the Your Phone app in the future. The company is working on adding support for running multiple mobile apps side-by-side later this year.
