Nubia Watch With Flexible AMOLED Display Launches On Kickstarter

Nubia, the sub-brand of ZTE, had launched the world’s first smartwatch with a flexible display at last year’s MWC event. Now in 2020, the company has announced its successor called Nubia Watch through a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.

While the Nubia Watch will retail for $399 in the international markets, the early bird pricing on Kickstarter starts as low as $199. It can be shipped worldwide and the estimated delivery is in October 2020. Since the Nubia Watch is already on sale in China, there shouldn’t be any shipping delays.

Nubia Watch featuring flexible display finally makes global debut

The last year’s Nubia Alpha was designed to work like a smartphone, and it made it look bulky on the wrist.

With the 2020 Nubia Watch, the company has ditched a few features that resulted it in weighing 50 percent less than its predecessor. At 98 grams, it still weighs a lot when compared with other newly launched smartwatches.

Obviously, the main attraction of this weird-looking Nubia Watch has to be its massive 4.01-inch flexible AMOLED display. It comes with a resolution of 960 by 192 pixels and is protected by Schott Glass. As it runs on a proprietary OS, there will be no support for third-party apps.

However, the Nubia Watch will do everything a smartwatch normally would, like tracking fitness activities and monitoring heart-rate. There are four sport modes for monitoring workouts — indoor running, outdoor running, outdoor walking, and free workout.

When paired with a smartphone, the users can also make calls through the Nubia Watch. It also mirrors the notifications for calls and messages along with social media and IM apps.

With all these features, the Nubia Watch featuring 425mAh battery will last up to 7 days on a single charge. It works with both iOS and Android smartphones.

It is powered by 2016’s Snapdragon Wear 2100 chip

The IP54 certification also makes the smartwatch splash-proof. Under the hood, it houses the 4-year old Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 chip.

The Nubia Watch comes equipped with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. As seen on the Nubia Alpha, the new smartwatch also supports adding custom text or animation effects.

It comes with a silicone strap in the box and the company is also offering a leather strap as an optional accessory.

While the hardware looks decent, the software doesn’t look that promising. Unlike the Nubia Alpha, there is no camera on this new smartwatch. It sports a single button placed on the right side.

The Nubia Watch comes in Midnight Black and Army Green color options.
