The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 official cases have just appeared on the company’s site, and they don’t seem to offer much protection. As most of you know the Galaxy Z Fold 2 got announced recently, kind of.
Samsung showed off the phone during its Unpacked event, and talked about its design. We still do not have the spec info, nor do we know when exactly will it be available. Samsung will share more information at the beginning of September, though.
As we wait for that, the phone’s official cases appeared on the company’s official website in Bulgaria. Two cases popped up, to be accurate, the ‘Aramid Standing Cover’ and ‘Leather Cover’.
Both official Galaxy Z Fold 2 cases are minimal, they don’t offer much protection
Both of these cases are pretty minimal, which is something I personally really like, but most people are looking for more serious protection. That especially applies for expensive phones, and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 will come with a premium price tag.
These cases were spotted by Max J., a well-known tipster, and he seems to be a bit upset by the lack of protection on the front. What’s the issue here? Well, based on the provided renders, the rear camera module seems to be protected, but only barely.
The front, where the display is, not so much. That goes for both modes, when the phone is folded and unfolded. The ‘lip’ on the front seems to be minimal or non-existent, it’s hard to tell based on renders.
We’ll have to see the device in a case in real life in order to be sure of this. Based on renders, though, the ‘Aramid Standing Cover’ offers no lip at all, while the Leather Cover offers minimal protection.
The Aramid Standing Cover is listed in one color only, black. The Leather Cover, on the other hand, comes in three color options, black, green, and red.
Do note that a price tag is still not listed by the company. Chances are that we’ll need to wait until next month to see their price tag in Bulgaria. That is when these cases will probably pop up in other countries as well.
Samsung may offer some additional cases for the device, though. These are the only ones that are listed at the moment, so the only ones we can comment on. More rugged cases may become available.
Making a more rugged case for a foldable phone is difficult
It’s difficult to make a case for a foldable phone, that’s for sure. The device needs to fold, so the lip cannot really be pronounced, not at all. There has to be a way to include it, somehow, as the display is too exposed this way.
