Borderlands 3 has been available on Stadia since late last year and has gone through a couple of different discounts, but now it’s available to play for free.
Yes, Borderlands 3 is absolutely free to play on Stadia right now. Starting from today as of 9AM PST. It’s already almost mid-afternoon at the time of writing, which means you can jump in right now and give the game a try.
The game will not be available for free forever though. So you’ll want to jump in and check it out while you can.
Borderlands 3 will only be free on Stadia through the weekend
This is a weekend-long event. So players will have until Sunday evening to try Borderlands 3 out for free.
As for exact timing, you will have until August 9 at 11:59 PM PST. If you’re at all interested in Borderlands 3 and haven’t played it anywhere else yet, now is a good time to see what all the fuss is about.
The good news is that if you play all weekend and get through quite a bit of content, all your progress is saved. Google confirms this in the email. So should you choose to keep playing, you’ll start from where you left off during the free period.
Plus, Google is going to be offering the game at a 50-percent discount. This discount will last until after the game is no longer available to play for free. Specifically on August 13 at 11:59PM PST.

Borderlands 3 won’t be the last game you can play for free. As Google notes in the email, this is the beginning of the Free Play Days promotion.
Which means in the future, there will be more games landing on Stadia for free for a weekend. Other platforms like Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox already do promotions like this. So Google is really just joining in with a similar offering on Stadia.
When the next Free Play Days pops up is unclear of course. Since this weekend is the first one, and it’s just barely started, Google wasn’t likely to share details on its roadmap for future weekends.
Rest assured though that it will certainly send out more emails the moment there is another one coming.
Google has been giving away free games on Stadia since its release. But to get those free games, you had to be a Pro subscriber and keep that subscription to continue playing them. With Free Play Days, even Stadia Base subscribers will have a chance to check out games for free.
It’s a good move for Google and a step towards a more complete and robust Stadia ecosystem.
