The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 is expected to come with Ultra-Wide Band technology. This is to support precise, indoor positioning.
In a Tweet from @SaudiAndroid, it was confirmed the company were launching a new technology called UWP. This may also be spelt UWB and is designed to allow the new phones to transfer files at very high speed.
XDA developers have also noted that this corroborates testing of Ultra-Wide Band technology by Samsung. They have found several certification reports indicating usage at 8250MHz.
More technology Galaxy Note 20 details leaked
We already have a reasonably good idea of what the Galaxy Note 20 will look like when launched. It is fairly well established how much the device will cost around the world at this point. We also know that the device will be released very soon given Samsung is allowing you to reserve your device now.
The Ultra-Wide Band chip is likely to be used in order to support faster device-to-device connections. This would result in quicker file transfers. There is some suggestion that you may be able to point one Note 20 at another in order to prioritize connection.
Ultra-Wide band technology similar to Apple claim
This would take advantage of the precise, indoor positioning features enabled by the technology. This feature appears to be very similar to something Apple promised with the iPhone 11.
Apple claimed that “the new Apple‑designed U1 chip uses Ultra-Wide band technology for spatial awareness”. This would allow the device “to understand its precise location relative to other nearby U1‑equipped Apple devices.”
The company compares this to GPS but on the scale of your living room. These reports suggest that Samsung is working on something similar and it will come with the Galaxy Note 20.
At this stage, it is not yet clear as to whether this feature will come with both the Note 20 and the Note 20 Ultra. As with all these unconfirmed leaks, there are always some details that are left unclear. There is some suggestion that it may be made exclusive to the flagship top tier only but we do not know for sure.
However, Samsung may want to expand this technology to as many products as possible. This would be to make the features something that is more likely to take off by getting as more people to use it.
The expectation is that Samsung will reveal all at their event Samsung Unpacked. Although we know a lot about Not 20, we will have to wait until then to get it all confirmed.
