Samsung Makes Galaxy Watch 3 Official – Here's Why You Want It

The Galaxy Watch 3 has now been made official by Samsung at the company’s Unpacked event today. This is the newest wrist-worn wearable from Samsung since the Galaxy Watch Active 2 from 2019.

And while it being the latest is why some consumers will want it, there’s more reasons than that to consider this thing.

The Galaxy Watch 3 is the official new wearable from Samsung that carries a more traditional watch design. Unlike the Galaxy Watch Active 2, it has the physical rotating dial, crown buttons that look like normal crown buttons, and it comes with a leather strap.

More than that though, the Galaxy Watch 3 has some great feature updates from its predecessor.

The Galaxy Watch 3 is official complete with the rotating bezel

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 3 is probably going to be a hit for numerous reasons. One thing that will stand out to users of the original Galaxy Watch though, not to mention the Gear S3, is the rotating bezel.

Samsung got rid of this with the Galaxy Watch Active and the Galaxy Watch Active 2. But it’s back and will make navigating the watch menus easier. Not to mention you won’t have to smudge up your screen with a bunch of fingerprints unless absolutely necessary.

This a touchscreen watch. So completely avoiding touch interaction with it isn’t exactly reasonable. But the rotating bezel will limit the amount of time you have to touch it.

Beyond the rotating bezel, another standout feature is the Trip Detection. Which allows the watch to recognize if you’ve fallen down. If the watch picks this up, it’ll give you the opportunity to send an SOS alert to saved emergency contacts.

There’s home exercise integration too. Which is likely to be very useful for many consumers these days as they spend more time at home. With this feature, you can cast your workout videos from Samsung Health to your Samsung TV. With a full service fitness studio available.

It’s thinner and lighter than the Galaxy Watch

If you thought the Galaxy Watch was too heavy, you’re in luck. The Galaxy Watch 3 is lighter than the original Galaxy Watch. Not only that, but it’s thinner.

So it won’t feel or look as bulky on your wrist. And no matter how little it may have made a difference, it won’t weigh down your wrist as much either. According to Samsung the Galaxy Watch 3 is 15-percent lighter and 14-percent thinner.

It comes in two different sizes. 41mm and a larger 45mm for those that prefer the bigger watch case. It’ll auto-track seven different exercises, though it’ll detect 40 in total. The remaining 33 just won’t be automatic and you’ll need to initiate what they are before beginning.

The watch comes in Stainless Steel and Titanium case options. The Titanium model will also be available in the 45mm only. It comes with 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, a Full Color Always -On-Display (1.4-inches for the 45mm and 1.2-inches for the 41mm), and a 5ATM rating in addition to IP68 and MIL-STD 810G.
