This morning Huami officially announced the Amazfit band 5, its latest tracker, and it comes packed with Alexa, Sp02 monitoring, and numerous other features all for around $45.
For that cost this makes the Amazfit Band 5 a pretty useful tracker. Especially considering the cost of many other wearables which offer these features.
The Band 5 also comes with stress monitoring. A feature that has steadily been making the rounds in other trackers. For example, the upcoming Halo from Amazon will have stress monitoring. And the Zepp E smartwatch that was announced a the end of August offers it as well.
Alexa responses on the Amazfit Band 5 will be text-based
The Amazfit Band 5 does come with Alexa, but it doesn’t have a speaker. So interacting with Alexa won’t be like it is on many other devices.
In most cases Alexa would respond vocally. Like you’d get if you were asking it something on an Echo speaker. On the Amazfit Band 5, responses instead come through by text.
So if you ask Alexa something, for example, you’ll see the responses on the display of the tracker. That being said you can still make commands that control various smart devices around your home. So in that sense it’ll be like any other Alexa-powered device.
In addition to Alexa support and Sp02 monitoring, the Band 5 comes with menstrual period tracking, sleep monitoring, breathing exercises and more. And all of that is connected to the Zepp companion app on your smartphone. Within the app you get a better overall picture of the data that the tracker picks up.
Know how much activity you need to stay healthy with PAI
Another big feature of the Amazfit Band 5 is PAI, or Personal Activity Intelligence. This is a system based on the PaiHealth research from Norway.
What it does is allow you to figure out how much activity you need to engage with every day to stay healthy. The more you’re active, the more the tracker can analyze your heart rate data and give you a personal PAI score.
Based on that, you can see if you need to be more active or less active. The Amazfit Band 5 is a super lightweight tracker at 24g with the strap. So you won’t feel weighted down while wearing it.
It also comes with a battery life of up to 15 days. So you should only be needing to charge it every other week or so. It can last even longer than that if you place it into a power saver mode. It also features 11 sport modes, a 5ATM rating, and comes in three colors – Olive, Orange, and Midnight Black.
Amazfit says the band will retail for $44.95, though pricing may vary and it could be as much as $49.99. It’ll be available on Amazon via the Amazfit store page.
