Blink announced a pair of new security cameras today, the new Blink Outdoor and Indoor cameras.
These new cameras have one really nifty trick up their sleeves. And that is the fact that they can last a full four years on one set of batteries.
How is this crazy battery life possible?
The fact that these cameras can last for four years on a single battery pack, is pretty incredible. But how is that possible?
Well, by default, the two cameras will work with a pair of AA batteries, and that will last two years.
However, Blink is going to begin shipping – later this year – a battery expansion back that will allow you to use four AA batteries. Allowing you to double that to four years.
This is why we are saying a single set of batteries, and not a single battery, as that would technically be incorrect.
Now while we would love to see Blink give us rechargeable batteries, it is nice to see that these batteries do last for around two to four years, significantly longer than most other rechargeable batteries in other security cameras. So that’s a good thing to see.
The Blink Outdoor and Indoor cameras do have all of the usual features you’d want. Continuous recording when it sees someone or senses motion. It also records in 1080p. And as you’d expect from an Amazon-owned company, both of these cameras are compatible with Amazon Alexa. So you can bring up the feed from the camera onto your Echo Show, Fire TV or even your smartphone.
They come with a free trial to Blink’s cloud storage plan
Amazon is bundling these new Blink cameras with a free trial to its cloud storage plan, that is good through the end of the year. After the trial is over, it’ll cost you $3 per month. There is an unlimited-camera plan that will cost you $10 per month.
The plan is not required to use the cameras though, as Blink still allows its customers to store their recordings locally. They can also save to a flash drive if needed.
Both the Blink Outdoor and Indoor cameras are available for pre-order now and will ship on September 16. The outdoor model is $99 and the indoor model is $79. The biggest difference between the two is the fact that the outdoor model is actually weatherproof.
