Discord To Bring Screen Sharing Option To Android Devices

A new string of codes on GitHub and an XDA app teardown, reveals that Discord is working to bring screen sharing option to its Android application.

Notably, Discord has grown feature-rich over the past few years, especially the Android app. The company has added plenty of features and enhancements for the Discord Android app.

Features like QR code logins, mute certain conversations, support for slash commands, Mobile Voice Overlays, etc. have made Discord pretty useful for Android users.

Besides, the Android app also received a new noise suppression feature. This lets the users filter out the background noise for better voice calling experience.

Well, earlier we have reported that Discord was moving away from being a gamer brand. In fact, the company has already prepped up to shift over to a place to talk, for all the people.

This will not only involve gamers but normal users who would like to communicate with people. Moreover, this can be done while playing the game, which is the basic foundation of the very existence of Discord.

And now the latest codes on GitHub and XDA app teardown, highlight that Discord is working to bring a screen sharing option for the Android users.

This feature will allow users to share the Android device’s screen with friends

The idea is pretty simple. This feature will allow Android users to share their device’s screen with friends. This, in turn, could be very beneficial if you are stuck in a difficult level of a game or want some assistance over anything.

Notably, the string of new codes has been spotted in the latest Canary release of the Discord desktop client. To be more specific, it was discovered in the teardown of Discord Canary build 66173.

Here is the string for your convenience;

MOBILE_STREAM_ACTIVE_HEADER:"You’re sharing your screen!"
MOBILE_STREAM_ACTIVE_BODY
:"You can switch to other apps for your friends to see."
MOBILE_STREAM_ACTIVE_BODY_SOUNDSHARE_WARNING_ANDROID
:"You can switch to other apps for your friends to see. The latest version of Android is required for your audio to be shared."
MOBILE_STREAM_STOP_SHARING
:"Stop sharing"

The features are self-explanatory, as seen from the strings above. Apparently, when you are doing a video-call, you can share your Android device’s screen.

This will share your phone’s screen with your friends. Moreover, you can also open other apps as well and let your friends see what’s on your device’s screen.

As already mentioned, this could come handy if you are facing any issues related to any app or the device itself. Note that this screen sharing option is already available with the desktop client of Discord.

And now, by the looks of it, it seems like the company is almost ready to roll out this feature for Android mobile clients as well.

However, our readers should note it is not always the case with features that are shown in the app teardown to make its way to the stable update.

Besides, this feature is still not available in the beta channel. Thus the arrival for users via the stable channel is not imminent. We will keep an eye on any further developments in this regard.
