If you were looking to pre-order the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and get one of the custom hinges to go along with it, well you’re going to be waiting a bit. As they are already delayed five weeks.
That’s not as bad as it sounds, as the pre-orders are shipping for a little over two weeks as it is. So it’s really only a three week delay. But according to Samsung’s website, it is “expected to ship in 5 weeks”. And that time frame is likely going to slip as more people start to get their pre-orders in.
The custom hinge colors are Metallic Red, Metallic Blue, Metallic Gold and Metallic Silver. Which can really give your Galaxy Z Fold 2 a pretty cool look. And it’s makes it a little more unique. You can of course choose to stick with the Mystic Bronze or Mystic Black colored hinge that fits with the color you picked.
This doesn’t necessarily mean lots of pre-orders
With the custom hinges being delayed five weeks, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are getting a lot of pre-orders. Remember, pre-orders just opened up a few minutes ago.
It’s likely the fact that they will need to assemble these phones, as they are purchased. As the hinge isn’t something you can just slap on at purchase, like the back of a phone.
Additionally, it’s likely that Samsung also didn’t prepare a lot of these hinges at first, as it doesn’t expect to see a lot people buying the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Partly due the price of $1999, but also due to the fact that this is still a very fragile phone.
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 pre-orders are open now and will ship on September 18. For those that want a custom hinge, it’ll be about three weeks beyond that.
The device comes with two displays. There’s a 6.2-inch outer display, and then the 7.6-inch main display. This is powered by the Snapdragon 865+ chipset, with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It’s a pretty powerful smartphone, and it comes in a pretty unique form factor. Which can be a phone and then unfolded into a tablet.
At $1999, this is likely not going to be a best seller. But you can trade in your phone and get it for $1499. If you are a Galaxy Fold or Galaxy Z Flip owner, you can trade that in for even more off of the price of the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Which is really impressive, when you think about it.
