Google has launched a new redesign for Google Finance for desktop and mobile versions. As reported by 9to5Google, this is focused on ease and efficiency for users.
Google Finance launched over ten years ago to help investors manage and check their stocks. It has stayed relatively consistent over the years other than a major overhaul at the end of 2017.
This is a more artistic and visual change rather than a massive overhaul. However, Google claims that the redesign Finance has undergone will have practical benefits for users.
Google finance gets a new redesign
Google says that the redesign will aid in finding “data for stocks you’re interested in, market trends and relevant news to make more informed investment decisions.” In theory, then, the changes will make the system more manageable and easier to navigate.
There are two major obvious changes to the platform to take note of. The first concerns how information is surfaced. The new Google Finance features bold colors across the platform.
This is to make different stocks stand out from each other. Previously, stocks on the platform looked a bit like a list of search results. Now, Google has moved away from this type of this design in order to try and make each stock stand out and be more noticeable.
In a statement, Google has said that “understanding context is key to making informed investment decisions.” With the aim of making it easy for users to find and compare information by keeping the organization helpful.
Google to make changes to ‘Watchlists’ feature
Google Finance has also made some design alterations to the ‘watchlists’ feature. This allows users to stay up to date on news, stats, and earnings details that they actually care about. This is designed to provide context on stock movements and allow users to track trends of stock over time.
Later in the year, Google plans to add model portfolios to the platform. Google says this is to allow you to track daily gains or losses and review news that is relevant to your portfolio.
Now, at the top of the page, you can compare major markets worldwide. It also now has a Google Calendar integration which allows users to see company events and earnings calls. These may appear in the right-hand panel.
Google Finance will also focus on increasing financial literacy. Google has said that “you’ll find explanations and descriptions of key terms and stats to help you learn as you go.”
An example the company uses is that if you hover over certain terms you will receive a definition of that term.
The new redesign will roll out over the coming weeks in the U.S. You should be able to search for it or access it directly at Google Finance.
