It looks like Google has brought back its Material Design Blog after a long break between posts. As reported by Android Police the company has published eight separate posts recently.
Material Design has somewhat faded into the background in terms of public consciousness. After it returned to the Google Play Store in 2019 little has broken news-wise on the platform. Other than a Material Design based Google Groups makeover there has been little to report.
Perhaps that is set to change with the revival of the Material Design Blog by Google. If the company commits to more regular and interesting posts maybe interest will return.
Google looking to revive Material Design Blog
Material Design is a design language created by Google back in 2014. A blog accompanied this with the most historic available post dating back to mid-2018. However, between then and now posts have been few and far between.
There appears to be little structure and regularity to the blog post. However, this dump of posts may signal a change of intention to more regular posting to promote more engagement.
The most recent posts cover a range of topics meaning that there is something that would appeal to everyone. At the top of the page, there is also a ‘letter from the editor’. This clearly signals a changing moment in the blog and we should expect more in the future.
Material Design blog returns with eight posts
The first two most on the blog page concern color. Both looking at designing a material theme with one more focussed on the theme for Android.
Below this, we have a similar pair of posts that concern themselves with typography in Material Design. Then there is another pair that looks more at shape in Material Design. Finnaly, there is a post that looks at transitions using Material motion for Android.
Many anticipate that with the revival of the blog Google will offer more information and guidance for developers. For those looking to design a new app, site, or service this could be a very useful tool.
Hopefully, Google will continue to provide useful content and guidance in these blog posts. If this is not a flash in the pan then this resource could prove very beneficial to many who want to use Material Design’s tools.
With any luck, we will be able to bring you some useful updates from this blog as they come and point you towards the most useful information it offers.
