Google Meet Gets AI-Powered Noise Cancellation Feature

As per new reports, Google is rolling out some new features for the Google Meet app. Reportedly, Google Meet is getting an AI-powered noise cancellation feature for Android and iOS.

Back in April, it was announced that Google will make some new features available for the Google Meet. And the latest reports confirm the arrival of a new feature.

This piece of information comes from an official blog post. Notably, this features make use of Artificial Intelligence to automatically filter out the background noise from your device’s audio input.

Besides, Google’s video conferencing app has already bagged this noise cancellation feature back in June. And now, it is rolling out for the Google Meet users.

This feature lets your voice to go through while cutting on those background noises. The feature was already available on the Google Meet web version, and now it is expanding for Android and iOS.

Google Meet noise cancellation feature filters out several types of distractions

This AI-powered Google Meet noise cancellation feature is pretty advanced. To give you some context, it can filter out several types of distractions like dogs barking, pen-clicking, typing, closing a door, or sounds from a nearby construction site.

However, note that this feature will be turned off by default. So, Google Meet users will have to manually enable this feature to cancel or filter out background noises.

If you are wondering how you can do that, well, we have got you covered. To enable Google Meet noise cancellation feature, head over to More, select Settings, and tap on Noise cancellation.

Once enabled, this Google Meet noise cancellation feature will make use of a machine learning model to understand the difference between noise and speech.

To give enhanced filtration, your voice is sent over to Google Data Center, which then undergoes through a machine learning model. Once it is done, it gets re-encrypted and is sent back to the Google Meet call.

This new feature for Google Meet is not available for all G Suite users

Note that this new noise cancellation feature will only be available for G Suite Enterprise and G Suite Enterprise for Education customers on Android and iOS.

Meaning that G Suite Basic, G Suite Business, G Suite for Education, and G Suite for Nonprofits customers are left out, for now.

Moreover, the feature is not rolling out for users in some countries including South Africa, the UAE, and surrounding locales.

Good thing is that this feature will be widely available for all the users, by the end of this month. So, if you have not yet received an update, you should probably wait for 1-3 days to get this new feature.
