The Google Pixel 5 has just appeared online, in two real-life images. This leak pretty much confirms that the Google Pixel 5 will take a page from the Pixel 4a book, as it will look extremely similar to that handset.
Real-life images reveal the Google Pixel 5 design
These images have surfaced on Twitter (included below the article), and the phone doesn’t even include a Google logo on the back. This is a prototype unit representing the final design. This is not the first time we’re seeing something like this. Something similar happened last year with Pixel leaks. Google has a tendency to use this logo in the prototyping phase.
In any case, let’s talk about the design first, shall we. Based on what we can see here, the Pixel 5 will be made out of polycarbonate (plastic). That could be metal on the back, but it almost certainly will not.
Why? Well, the Google Pixel 5 will ship with wireless charging support, and a metal back would make that impossible. The phone does include a fingerprint scanner on the back, similar to the Pixel 4a.
You can check out the phone’s cameras in the top-left corner, as those sensors are all a part of the same camera module. The same goes for an LED flash. The whole camera module does protrude on the back, just a little bit. The ultrawide camera is included.
The power / lock button is placed on the right-hand side of the phone. Below it, you’ll notice the volume up and down buttons. The phone’s back is curved towards the edges by the way.
The phone includes thin bezels, and a flat display
Now, switching to the front side of the device. You’ll notice that the bezels are quite thin, and that a display camera hole is included in the top-left corner. This is also a layout similar to the one on the Pixel 4a.
The Google Pixel 5 will feature a flat display, as it’s shown here. The phone’s main speaker will be placed on the bottom, while the secondary will sit above the display. That is not shown here, but that’s where we’re expecting them to sit.
Now, one thing you’ll notice on the phone’s display is the ‘Pixel 5s’ model name. Well, this is probably used to differentiate between 5G models. It’s supposed to represent a model with or without mmWave 5G.
The Google Pixel 5 is expected to become official either at the end of September, or in early October. The phone will become available in October, though.
It is expected to ship with the Snapdragon 765G 64-bit octa-core processor. Rumors are also hinting at 8GB of RAM, and an OLED display with a high refresh rate. If you’d like to know more, read our Google Pixel 5 preview article.
