Google is long rumored to be working on a new Android TV dongle codenamed as Sabrina. It is expected to be the successor to Chromecast Ultra but comes powered by Android TV OS. According to Android Police, the company might soon launch its new Android TV Dongle as “Chromecast with Google TV.”
While the previous leaks suggested this new device to come with Nest branding, Google is continuing to launch it as Chromecast. However, the company will rename Android TV as Google TV. The first leaks about this rebranding appeared in early May this year.
Chromecast with Google TV pricing & color options leaked
Currently, Android TV OS is the preferred choice for several smart TV manufacturers including Sony and TCL. Even after the rebranding, the UI and functionality of the OS should remain the same. Speaking of the upcoming Chromecast with Google TV, it could cost as low as $50.
As per the leaks, it is currently listed between $50 and $60 at Home Depot, Target, and Walmart. While there is confirmation over the final pricing, it should certainly cost lower than the $70 launch price of the Chromecast Ultra. Moreover, this new streaming device will also come bundled with a remote controller (codenamed as Abbey).
It will be available in Rock Candy, Como Blue, and Summer Melon color options. Just like the other Google devices, some color options could be limited to specific markets. Based on the leaks, the company might launch its new hardware products by the end of September or early October.
It might officially launch on September 30
Along with the new Chromecast with Google TV, the company will also launch a new Nest speaker, Pixel 4A 5G, and Pixel 5. One of the Chromecast listings mentioned the launch date as September 30, but there is no official confirmation yet. A few weeks back, this new streaming device from Google with the model number GZRNL was certified by the FCC.
The remote controller with the model number G9N9N confirmed to come with Bluetooth support. The previously leaks revealed the first look of the remote controller. It looks very similar to the remote controller of the Daydream View VR headset.
There is a circular D-pad along with six circular buttons, one of them is for the Google Assistant. With the support for 4K HDR playback, the new Chromecast will be competing with the already popular Roku Streaming Stick+ and the Amazon Fire TV Stick.
