Google Brings Wi-Fi Sync & Mic Slider Features To Chrome OS 85

A new update of Chrome OS 85 now improves the usability of Chromebooks. These new features include Wi-Fi Sync, simpler settings, and an all-new mic slider that has been added to Chrome OS 85.

As per the official blog, Google has added these new nifty features to ease out the use of Chromebooks. In fact, Chromebooks are designed to be shareable and Chrome OS 85 lets you achieve that.

This means that if you borrow your family or friend’s Chromebook, you should be able to login with your Google account to access your documents and tabs.

Fortunately, the new Wi-Fi sync option is here to give you just that. Apparently, once you enter the Wi-Fi password on your profile on one Chromebook, the info will get saved to your personal profile.

The benefit of this is when you use someone else’s Chromebook. The Wi-Fi password will automatically be picked up from your personal profile. Thus, negating the need to remember Wi-Fi passwords while switching over multiple Chromebooks.

Moreover, when you are viewing network details, Google will keep a note if a connection is synced with other devices on your account.

Additionally, the Instant Tethering feature now links your Chromebook to an Android phone’s hotspot. This is helpful when you are frequently traveling or on the go.

Google has updated the search in Chrome OS 85 settings with an improved design

The search in Chrome OS 85 settings is also improved. A new redesigned interface now lets you search for any settings more intelligently and finds a better approximate match.

What’s more interesting is that now you can search for any Chrome OS settings from the search bar itself where you lookup for web results and apps.

In future, Google will also enable searching for Settings options from the Launcher itself. The idea behind this is to create a single place to access Google Search, Settings, apps, local files, and more.

Importantly, a new mic slider option is now available on the Chrome OS 85. Making it easier for the users working from home to control volume from the Quick Settings.

Google is also adding some tweaks to the Camera app on the Chromebook. There are now options to pause and resume video recording. You can even take a snapshot while video recording as well.

Display Settings is also improved and now it lets you independently set the resolution and refresh rate of connected monitors. The handwriting keyboard now supports two gestures.

For your context, the strike-gesture will delete what you have written. While a caret (^) inserts space. For complete info on all the new features introduced with Google Chrome OS 85, you can head here.
