One of the best brands when it comes to action cameras, GoPro has finally unveiled the GoPro Hero 9 Black. It comes with a price tag of $450 and packs tons of new features.
Probably the selling point of this device is the inclusion of the second color screen and the 5K video support. Long story short, the 5K videos looks sharp and stunning.
Notably, the addition of the second screen is one of the most significant updates in years for the lineup. Besides, the GoPro Hero 9 Black brings improvement in almost every department.
There is a better resolution for images and videos, a larger battery, better video stabilization, a second screen, and more. However, all these goodies come with a hefty price tag.
FYI, the GoPro Hero 9 Black is $50 expensive than 2019’s GoPro Hero 8 Black. So, you will be paying a price for those extra add-ons that you are getting with the latest action-cam.
It sports a 23.6-megapixel camera and 5K video recording at 30fps
Under the hood, the device is powered by the GP1 processor from the previous model. But sports a better camera at 23.6 megapixels for sharper image quality.
Moreover, the GoPro Hero 9 Black is now capable to shoot at 5K@30fps. The images can be captured at a maximum of 20MP resolution, which is up from 12MP in the previous gen-model.
The device is juiced by a 1,720 žžmAh battery, which is again 40% larger than Hero 8 Black. One of the coolest features that is making a comeback is the removable front lens cover.
For the unaware, this feature was present with Hero 7 but was missing from Hero 8. But finally, GoPro decided to add this feature with Hero 9 Black. And for that, we should thank GoPro.
The “Max Lens Mods” will come at a price of $99 and be on sale starting October 2020. These mods will add an even wider frame and horizontal leveling no matter the orientation of the camera.
GoPro Hero 9 adds new features like HyperSmooth 3.0 & TimeWarp 3.0
There is a secondary screen that is a good option that should be useful to frame your shots. However, there is a noticeable lag on the front screen.
The primary screen is now bigger at 2.27 inches compared to the 1.95-inch display on the 2019 Hero 8. Apparently, all these bump-up numbers contribute to a bigger size of the GoPro Hero 9 Black.
GoPro has also added some new software features like HyperSmooth 3.0 & TimeWarp 3.0. The HyperSmooth 3.0 promises improved video stabilization and boosts mode in all resolutions.
With the TimeWarp 3.0, you can now slow down your hyper-lapse videos to real-time speed. You can also achieve half-speed for a slow-motion effect.
The device is rugged and now comes waterproof to 10 meters. It supports microSD card and type-C charging.
