Microsoft unveiled the Surface Duo foldable phablet back in September 2019. However, it seems like the company has no plans to sell the phone outside of the United States until 2021.
Well, this could be disappointing for some. Firstly, because Microsoft teased this device for a long time before the unveiling. And secondly, the Microsoft Surface Duo promises a punch.
Unfortunately, users outside the US will have to wait until 2021 to get their hands on the Surface Duo. Microsoft even refrained from giving a timeframe as to when users should expect the device to arrive in their market.
If you are in the US, you can go ahead and pre-order the Microsoft Surface Duo device for not-so-cheap $1,399. Moreover, you can have the device in your hands by September 10. Pretty sweet, aye?
For users outside of the US, Microsoft has a good reason behind this delay for other markets. The company is reportedly taking calculative measures to meet the customer’s demand.
Yeah, we get it. The device looks promising and there are probably more customers that are eyeing to buy this product. But we cannot say for sure how many of us actually want the Surface Duo.
Which is the reason the company does not want to produce more and sell less. This cautious measure is to avoid the loss caused by the Surface RT.
A simple reach out customers in other regions would have made a difference
You cannot blame Microsoft for this measure, where the company wants to take its step wisely before it arrives in the hands of everyone.
But, as a new fan of the Surface Duo, just like me there would be several others who would out of curiosity, bought the device. Now, we are left only with YouTube videos about the product.
What Microsoft could have done, is they could have shared some information on how they plan to bring the product to other markets. This could have given the users something to rely on and understand.
Thankfully, a report by Android Central highlights that as per a Microsoft insider, the company is looking to start shipping Surface Duo in external markets in the first half of 2021.
Of course, this would be done after seeing the user’s reaction to the product in the US. But we would advise our readers not to quote us or Android Central on this, as plans might change if things do not go as planned.
A problem with this delay is that the Surface Duo already comes with a year-old chipset, i.e. Snapdragon 855. We are not saying that it is not capable of anything, but for a $1,399 device, you expect the latest and greatest.
