Prepare Yourselves For A Price Bump On Some PS5 Games

The price for PS5 games is going to see a bump up from what most people are used to paying.

For the current PS4 era, games are firmly listed at a $59.99 retail price at the maximum. Unless it’s a special edition or a digital deluxe with extra content, all AAA games hit at the $60 mark. And prices only go down from there.

Games are about to get more expensive though. With the PS5 (and no doubt the Series X), some games are going to be more than that $60 price. So the age of a more expensive game is finally here.

Whether you like it or not, this is going to be the reality. At least for console games. PC digital downloads are likely to stay at a similar price point to what they are now. So if something like Steam or The Epic Game Store is where you buy all your titles, you may not have much to worry about.

Some PS5 games will bump up to a $70 price point

Not all games are going to end up costing more for a standard edition version.

For example, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will only cost $50. So it’ll even be below what most AAA games cost right now. Demon’s Souls however, is going to be one of those games that retails for $70. Which means it’s deluxe editions if there are any, will end up being more as well.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is another one of those more expensive titles. The gold steel book edition of that game is $110.

Though worth noting is that the standard edition is only $60. Still, This is only the beginning of the PS5 games being launched. So for the next 6 years or so, or however long this generation of consoles lasts, games will gradually move up to that $70 mark more often.

Pre-orders for some games are already up alongside the console

PS5 pre-orders started last night, much earlier than anticipated thanks to Sony’s tweet that retail partners would begin selling the console pre-orders as early as this morning.

And right alongside the consoles, some of the games are already up for pre-order as well. Both Demon’s Souls and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla can be pre-ordered. You’ll also be able to place pre-orders for Miles Morales, Far Cry 6 and more.

If you’re wanting to ensure your disc versions of games that are launch day titles, order as early as you can as stock might be an issue with those as well.
