Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G To Soon Get eSIM Support Via OTA Update

The newly launched Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G supports dual SIM functionality with one eSIM and one nano-SIM. According to several pre-ordered customers, the device lacks the option to enable the eSIM feature out of the box. As reported by SamMobile, Samsung has acknowledged the missing eSIM feature and will soon release an OTA update to enable it.

However, the company hasn’t mentioned any ETA for the update. Even the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Flip 5G also come with a physical SIM card slot for the nano-SIM and use eSIM technology for the secondary SIM.

eSIM support missing on the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G went on sale in major markets around the world starting September 18. Before going on sale, Samsung has shipped the device to the pre-ordered customers. The lack of eSIM support doesn’t affect the users having a single cellular connection with a physical SIM card.

There is no option for the rest but to wait for the company to roll out the promised update to use their secondary SIM on the new foldable device. The company has to roll out the update as soon as possible to avoid any inconvenience to the users. Still, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the best foldable smartphone available in the market.

It improved a lot from the first-generation Galaxy Fold launched in September 2019. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G was first showcased during the Galaxy Note 20 launch event on August 5. Later, it was officially launched for $1999 during the second Galaxy Unpacked event held on September 1.

Supports both sub-6GHz and mmWave bands

Unlike the other Galaxy flagship smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 comes with the Snapdragon SoC in all the markets. It packs a 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ 5G mobile platform processor coupled with Kryo 585 CPU and Adreno 650 GPU. The device supports dual-mode 5G network with both standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) services.

As seen on other flagship 5G smartphones affordable 5G smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 also supports both sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G technologies. A few carriers like Verizon are currently offering 5G only through mmWave bands. So, the unlocked Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G should be compatible to use with most of the networks.
