TikTok Won, Judge Temporarily Blocks Trump Ban

TikTok has won, at least for now, as a federal court judge decided to block the Trump ban, reports Axios. The court granted TikTok’s request for a temporary restraining order against a ban issued by the Trump administration.

TikTok is in the clear, judge blocks Trump ban, at least temporarily

What does this mean? Well, the US consumers will still be able to download TikTok from the Google Play Store and the App Store. TikTok is one of the most popular social media and entertainment apps at the moment, so it’s a big deal.

TikTok said: “We’re pleased that the court agreed with our legal arguments and issued an injunction preventing the implementation of the TikTok app ban”. The company vouched to keep defending its rights for the benefit of its consumers and employees.

The US Commerce Department said that the Government will comply with the injunction, but that it intends to “vigorously defend the E.O. and the Secretary’s implementation efforts from legal challenges”.

As some of you recall, the Trump administration was forced to either defend or delay the TikTok ban on Friday. It seems like the reasoning was not enough for TikTok to get banned.

The government may respond in one way or the other. It may try to ban TikTok again soon, we’ll see. But, for now, TikTok is free to operate in the US without restrain.

This short-form video app is immensely popular around the globe

TikTok managed to grow a lot in the last year or so. This short-form video app has tons of creators and users at this point. The app has been downloaded well over 100 million times from the Play Store, according to Google’s data.

This service also created quite a few celebrities, and especially in the US. Some examples are, Charli D’Amelio, Addison Rae, Chase Hudson, and many more. Even some “regular” celebrities are continuously using the app to create content.

Many YouTubers are also taking the advantage of short-form videos in order to promote their work. All in all, TikTok is immensely popular these days, so it’s no wonder these actions attracted a lot of attention.

TikTok is owned by ByteDance, a company headquartered in Beijing. This is not the only Chinese-owned company to come under fire by the US government. We all know what happened to Huawei.

All in all, things are not looking good when it comes to relations between the US and China at the moment, at least from a business standpoint. It remains to be seen what will happen from this point on. It is worth noting, however, that the US Presidential elections are coming up soon.
