Vivo Plans To Boost Smartphone Camera Photosensitivity With New Sensor

Vivo has announced plans for a new camera sensor which will drastically improve photosensitivity in smartphones which use it. This also comes alongside the company’s commitment to build a visual content ecosystem.

Vivo has a reputation as a brand with a commitment to mobile photography technology. A recent review of the X50 Pro demonstrated this. The company also created a smartphone which can change the colour of its own backplate.

This renewed commitment to leading the way in mobile photography is underlined through the creation of the VISION+ ecosystem. This is composed through the Vivo VISION+ Mobile Photography Awards which it ran in conjunction with National Geographic.

Vivo to make more photography innovations

Vivo points to its innovations in the use of the 50MP GN1 sensor for the Gimbal Camera System of the Vivo X50. It also wishes to do more in the areas of night photography, digital portraits, sports imaging, telephoto lens, videography.

At the event, Li Zhuo, Director of Digital Imaging Product of Vivo announced the development of RGBW matrix and CFA filter. This is a new state-of-art sensor has 160% higher photosensitivity than the RGGB matrix.

Li revealed that the new devices adopting the RGBW have already begun development. He said they should hit the market at some stage next year. He claimed that overall the goal was to put mobile photography technology on a par with professional photography.

Vivo announces Vision+ Ecosystem

The Vision+ ecosystem focuses more on initiatives including content co-creation, education and cultural
exchanges. Michael Chang, Vivo’s General Manager of Branding said, “these initiatives are an opportunity to educate users on our technological advancements and visual aesthetic exploration”.

The partnership with National Geographic was also something the company is quick to extol. Both parties will be working on these mobile photography awards. Wang Yan, Head of National Geographic Branded Content and Partnership described a “successful partnership over the years” between the two brands.

Vivo also announced the VISION+ Mobile Photography Academy. This will invite world-class photographers to teach master classes to Vivo users and photography enthusiasts. It will also provide a cultural exchange platform for photographers and users.
