Fitbit announced its latest smartwatch back in August, i.e. the Fitbit Sense. And now with the new app, Fitbit Sense becomes the first smartwatch from the company to feature ECG.
Notably, after gaining clearance last month, the Fitbit Sense ECG app is now rolling out in the US and some parts of Europe. At the launch of the device, the company promised to bring this feature.
And by the looks of it, it is widely rolling out for Fitbit Sense smartwatch users. Fitbit has gained regulatory approval in the US & Europe for now, hence the rollout in these regions.
To give you some insight, it got approval from the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) in the US, while it got clearance from Conformite Europeenne (CE) in the European Union.
Fitbit Sense users in the US, UK, and Germany have reported the arrival of this new ECG (Electrocardiogram) feature. India too is on the list but we will have to wait for it to arrive there.
Well, this is not a trial and go feature that has been put in the Fitbit Sense. Apparently, the company conducted a multi-site clinical trial across the US.
And the collected data was submitted to concerned authorities for approval. Besides, as per TizenHelp, the ECG feature on the Fitbit Sense is successful in 98.7% of AFib cases with 100% accuracy in identifying participants with normal sinus rhythm.
The ECG feature makes Fitbit Sense an apt rival for Apple Watch Series 6 & Galaxy Watch 3
As already mentioned, the Fitbit Sense is the first smartwatch from the company to feature the ECG feature. Moreover, this also makes the Fitbit Sense an apt competition for the Apple Watch series and Galaxy Watch 3.
Fitbit has plans to rollout this ECG feature to more Fitbit devices. However, note that it is not supported on the Fitbit Versa 3 or any other older smartwatches from the company.
The addition of the ECG feature makes the Fitbit Sense a complete smartwatch. Because it already features blood oxygen variation, and stress management, and other activity tracking features.
Users at the receiving end of this new Fitbit Sense ECG feature have highlighted that the app may show up on its own. But the users can force update the app by heading to the Fitbit app and updating it from there.
Once you have installed the app, you can immediately start using it. Though you might need to set up the connected device in order to use the new ECG feature.
You need to go to Discover>>Assessments & Reports>>Heart Rhythm Assessment. Some terms and conditions along with a notice will be shown. Once agreed, you can open the ECG app on your Fitbit Sense.
The process takes about 30 seconds to complete. And you need to keep the fingers on opposite corners of the Fitbit Sense’s chassis. The normal reading message will read “Normal Sinus Rhythm.”
