Samsung has already rolled out the latest One UI 2.5 update to several of its smartphones launched in the last one year. Today, the two-year-old Galaxy Note 9 is receiving the One UI 2.5 update, which is still based on Android 10. Currently, the new update is rolling out to users in Germany.
The One UI 2.5 update for the Galaxy Note 9 comes with the build number N960FXXU6FTJ3 and includes the latest October 2020 Android security patch. Since the update is incremental, it might take a few more days to show up on all the eligible devices.
Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Starts Receiving One UI 2.5 Update
In the coming weeks, the One UI 2.5 rollout should expand to other markets. If there is no notification about the latest update, users can manually check for the update by going to Settings > Software update > Download.
There will be a prompt to download and install if the update is available. Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 9 in August 2018 with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. With the Android 10-based One UI 2.0 update released in December last year, the device has received its promised two major OS updates.
The new update also brings the wireless DeX mode
With the latest One UI update, the Galaxy Note 9 will support the new wireless DeX mode. The default Samsung Keyboard app has received a couple of new features. It gets the split keyboard functionality when using the device in landscape mode. Also, the keyboard’s search feature now works with Youtube as well.
The updated camera app gets a few new features like choosing the resolution and frame rate for recording video using the Pro video mode. Even the Single Take mode introduced with the One UI 2.1 gets a new option to choose the recording duration.
The default Messages app will allow users to send SOS messages every 30 minutes for 24 hours to pre-selected emergency contacts. Finally, this new update will also include several bug fixes and stability improvements. The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ smartphones are also expected to soon receive the One UI 2.5 update.
As per the new software update policy, Samsung will be offering three years of software support for all its flagship smartphone since the Galaxy S10 series. Unfortunately, the Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S9 smartphones will be left out from the upcoming Android 11-based One UI 3.0 rollout.
However, the monthly security patch updates will continue for one more year. Toward the end of their life cycle, these devices will be getting the security patch updates on a quarterly basis.
